Financial difficulties

The new Mortgage Charter has been set up by the UK’s largest lenders, the FCA, and the UK government to give mortgage customers more help and support with their mortgage repayments. All lenders that are a part of this charter have agreed on a set of standards to take when helping borrowers who are worried about higher interest rates on their mortgages.

Getting help before it gets out of hand

When money difficulties set in it’s essential that you seek help as soon as you possibly can. So if you’re finding it difficult to pay things like bills, your mortgage, or the minimum monthly payment amount on your credit card, we’ve got a comprehensive range of expert advice on how to cope and what to do.

Asking for information or guidance will not impact your credit file and can be the first step to finding a better solution.

If you’d prefer to speak to an independent party, then you could visit the National Debtline and web chat with a National Debtline adviser. Available Monday to Friday 9am to 8pm. Saturday 9:30am to 1pm. Closed Sunday.

Money worries and your health

This short tool hosted by the NHS website will assess how money worries are affecting you and will give practical information from the Money Advice Service on how to get your finances under control.
